Current Projects

DFB Los Angeles has raised $10,000 to support VISPA, a school and orphanage in southwestern Kenya.  The school is responsible for educating approximately 400 children in one of the poorest areas of Kenya, and it is home to 40 children left parentless due to the AIDS crisis that has ravished communities throughout Africa.  The DFB project will cover the costs of equipping a brand new science and computer lab at the school, from lab tables and chairs to microscopes and net books.

DFB Minneapolis is currently fundraising for a project with The Cookie Cart, a nonprofit bakery that provides job training and mentorship to at-risk youth.  Since the early 1980s, The Cookie Cart has been providing opportunities to thousands of young people in North Minneapolis, contributing to the neighborhood’s economic development and keeping kids off the streets.  The DFB funding will take this training to the next level by supporting a career certification program for Cookie Cart participants, further empowering kids in the program to achieve their life goals.  

The San Francisco Chapter is working on its first-ever project, and they’ve selected the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital as their project partner!  The goal is to raise $5,000 to provide special activities for the hospital’s Music Therapy program, which provides a creative and therapeutic outlet for children who are hospitalized due to serious illness.  For a kid, the hospital environment can be everything from terrifying and depressing to simply boring! 

DFB New York has selected its next project partner, and will be raising funds for a desperately-needed water filtration plant in San Pedro de Macorís, Dominican Republic.  This city, often called “the cradle of short stops” is famous for producing major league baseball talent, but is plagued with poverty and water-related illnesses, which have a particularly devastating effect upon children.
